Vaucluse House

A unique site with views over Diamond Bay to the south and level garden area to the north, a new house was designed in the existing footprint of the previous house aiming to capture the essence of the site’s amenity but providing a new house to suit the owner’s family needs. The house was designed in Hampton’s style, to reflect a casual seaside atmosphere for the seaside site. A sandstone base with weatherboard clad upper floors, charcoal coloured shutters to the white framed windows and eaves detailed with exposed timber rafters and timber pergolas give the house generous articulation and rhythm. The sandstone chimney to the south of the house gives a strong anchoring element to the building. Detailed joinery and rich marble benches carry the detail throughout the interiors. Strong indoor/outdoor connections from the Kitchen, Dining and Living Rooms enable the house to work seamlessly with the north facing garden, pool and covered terrace, providing generous opportunities for flexible entertaining and family living. Strong collaboration between architect, client, builder, landscape architect and interior designer resulted in a house that fulfilled the client’s dream and optimised the site’s potential.
