Freshwater – House 2
2012
To a Victorian weatherboard cottage, that had been renovated in the 1950’s, we added a parent retreat upper floor with bedroom, bathroom, living area and study for my client who works from home. The stir was housed in one of the existing bedrooms, with the spare space housing a large laundry with wine storage under the stairs.
The new gable roof addressed the street and gave the house some presence that was devoid in the old cottage nestled below the street in a tropical vegetated front garden.
The upper level is designed without air conditioning, using well placed windows to provide good cross ventilation across the whole floor. The new stairwell brings a lot of natural sunlight into what was a dark entry corridor. The upper level spaces are separated spatially, but maintain a connection with louvres and shutters allowing for flexibility with visual and acoustic connections.
Client Testimonial
“Annabelle was great. She listened to our ideas and requirements and came up with a design which really works for us. I love the feeling of space and light Annabelle’s design created, and she took care of all the council requirements. Everyone admires our new extension.”
