Randwick House
2023
A beautiful Federation cottage had four grand rooms to the front section of the house, with the services rear wing, vastly unchanged in 100 years! The brief for the family with young teenage children, was to renovate the old section of the house, create separate living spaces for adults and children, plus to create open plan kitchen and living areas opening directly onto the rear yard and swimming pool. Maintaining the character and charm of the existing Federation cottage, the front section of the house was restored and retained as the childrens’ ‘wing’.
The rear contemporary section of the house, a two storied masonry and standing seam clad structure is clearly separated from the traditional section of the house. The Kitchen Living rooms, a few stairs below the entry level, expand onto a louvred courtyard with BBQ, and the seamlessly onto the level lawn and swimming pool.
The Master Bedroom suite, approached via an open tread stair at the end of the hall, allows views to the rear yard to continue through the stair, minimising the visual impact of the stair. The Master Bedroom suite is generous and private, located above the living rooms below. The swimming pool is visually connected to the Dining room, though a large fixed glass window, allowing clear supervision of the pool from the Kitchen and Dining spaces.
